"In general, we are ready for Sail Sabang. The preparations have reached 95 percent completion," Bahrul Fikri, spokesman of the Sabang municipal administration, quoted Nazaruddin as saying.
Several of the city`s parks have been renovated to welcome the sail event to be held from November 28 to December 5, 2017.
President Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate Sail Sabang on December 2, 2017. The inauguration ceremony will be centered at three locations, notably Sabang Bay or CT3 BPKS seaport, Sabang Fair, and Indonesia`s Zero Kilometer Monument.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya lauded the nearly complete preparations for Sail Sabang, the ninth series of Sail Indonesia.
"Thank you, Mr Mayor. Sabang City is pretty and clean," he said after checking the preparations here, Tuesday.
Themed "Towards Sabang, Gateway of Global Maritime Tourism Destination," Sail Sabang is the largest tourism event to be ever held in this country.
"Sail Sabang is the largest tourism event in Indonesia, and we hope that after Sail Sabang, there will be more events aimed at attracting tourists," he said.
Some 30 activities will be organized to highlight Sail Sabang that is expected to attract some 20 thousand domestic and foreign tourists to visit Sabang, an outermost island located in Indonesia`s westernmost province of Aceh.
"Through the Sail Sabang event, President Jokowi hopes that the economy of the people of Sabang, in particular, and Indonesia, in general, will improve," the minister said.
Sail Sabang, this year`s edition of the annual international maritime event of Sail Indonesia, will be held on Weh Island, Aceh Province, with the aim of promoting the tourist destinations.
