Three Aceh parties fail to join general election 2019

Banda Aceh (ANTARA Aceh) - Three local political parties of Indonesia's Aceh Special Province have failed to be participants of the Legislative General Elections 2019 as they could not meet the requirements set by the Independent Election Commission (KIP).

"The registration of the three local parties as participants of the general elections 2019 cannot be accepted because they could not complete the requirements that have been set," Ridwan Hadi, KIP chairman said here on Wednesday, adding that Aceh Special Province has seven political parties.

KIP has accepted the registration of four of the local parties of Aceh, namely Partai Daerah Aceh (PDA), Partai Nanggroe Aceh, Partai SIRA, and Partai Aceh (PA).

Meanwhile, three local parties that failed to register include Partai Islam Aceh (PIA), Partai Gerakan Rakyat Aceh Mandiri (GRAM), and Partai Generasi Aceh Beusaboh That dan Takwa (Gabthat).

"Partai Aceh has a parliamentary seat that has passed the threshold. Thus, Partai Aceh (Aceh Party) has automatically become an election participant. However, the stipulation as an election participant, will be determined later," Hadi explained.

But, PDA, PNA, and Partai SIRA should undergo verification, both administrative and factual. If they pass the verification, then they can be determined as participants of the legislative election.

Hadi further revealed that the three political parties have met the minimum requirement, that is, they have submitted a list of party members as thousandth of the population. Aceh has 5.1 million people. Hence, the minimum number is 5,152 people.  

    

PDA submitted 6,887 members, spread through 22 of 23 districts/towns. PNA submitted 15,105 members from 22 districts/towns, and Partai SIRA submitted 7,033 members from 21 districts/towns.

In addition, determining the participation of the local political parties in the election will be done by mid-February next year along with the establishment of national political parties, while the running number of local political parties will follow the national parties, Hadi stated.
