"We must convey to all Muslim generations that the celebration of the New Year`s Eve is prohibited in our religion," Mursalin Basyah said.
This statement was conveyed in a lecture attended by thousands of worshipers at the Al-Faizin Lampeuneurut mosque here Sunday.
"Today is the 22nd Rabiul Akhir of 1440 Hijr. It means that the Islamic New Year which was established during the leadership of Umar Bin Khattab is still a long time," the Lecturer of the Islamic College, Tgk Chiek Pante Kulu, Banda Aceh, said.
On that occasion, Mursalin also appreciated the call of the Governor of Aceh, which prohibited the people in the province from celebrating the New Year.
"There are many hadiths from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that prohibit Muslims from having too much fun," the graduate of Al-Azhar University, Cairo said.
Acting Governor of Aceh, Nova Iriansyah, has appealed to the people of Aceh not to make New Year celebrations on January 1, 2019.
"On the New Year`s Eve on January 1, 2019 there must be no celebrations such as fireworks, firecrackers, blowing trumpets, racing and other fun games or activities that are useless and contrary to the Islamic law, customs and culture of Aceh," the Acting Governor of Aceh said.
The celebration of the New Year has become people`s habit and cultures in almost around the world.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) firmly forbade Muslims from celebrating the New Year as narrated by Anas bin Malik bin Nadar in a hadith.
He said when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to Madina, the locals had two celebration days, namely, Nairuz and Mihrajan. The Messenger of Allah asked, "What are these two days?". The people replied, "We used to celebrate them since the old time."
Then, the Messenger of Allah stated, "Verily, Allah has replaced for you these two days with two better days, namely, Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr".
