Singkil, Aceh (ANTARA Aceh) - Floods have hit nine villages in Singkil District, Aceh Province, since Wednesday morning following incessant downpours over the last couple of days.

The flooding was also triggered by the overflowing of the Pangkalan Sulampi River, Rosiana Kusuma of the Singkil disaster mitigation office, said here, Wednesday.

Floods affected the villages of Ujung Limus, with 63 households, or 292 people; Silatong, with 27 households, or 130 people; Tanjung Mas, with 78 households, or 412 people; Cibubukan, with 134 households, or 592 people; Serasah, with 22 households, or 83 people; Lae Riman, with 30 households, or 125 people; Lipat Kajang, with 15 households, or 70 people; and Kain Golong, with nine households, or 34 people.

Moreover, floodwaters, reaching a height of up to two meters, hit Bulusema Village, Suro Sub-district, forcing people from 86 households to move to higher ground.

Head of Simpang Kanan Sub-district Ahmad said that access to a main road connecting Aceh Singkil and Subulussalam was cut off due to the flooding.

In addition to Singkil, floods and a landslide have also hit several villages in East Simeulue and Teupah Seulatan, Simeuleu District, Aceh Province, following incessant heavy rains over the last two days.

"It has been raining since yesterday. Floods have hit several villages and a landslide hit the Pulau Bengkalak Street," Rahmad Kenedy, coordinator of the Simeulue search and rescue post, said here, Wednesday.

A bridge collapsed in the Kuala Makmur Village in East Siemuelue Sub-district due to the flooding.
