Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Banda Aceh city administration has reported a public complaint over pornographic content on the Google Maps application to the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics and Google Indonesia through the aduankonten.id.
"We have reported the case to the ministry and to Google Indonesia," the Banda Aceh city administration spokesman, Taufiq Alamsyah, told journalists on Monday in response to complaints from local residents over the porn content.
Several local residents felt offended after seeing a naked man when they typed the words "Aceh" and "Banda Aceh" on the Google Maps application, he said.
Mayor of Banda Aceh, Aminullah Usman, condemned the porn content, and appealed to Google to delete it.
In November 2017, Indonesia's Communication and Informatics Ministry had even blocked six websites of Tenor, a GIF content provider for WhatsApp, which had come under the scanner for its porn content.
The Ministry's Director General of Application and Informatics, Semuel A. Pangerapan, noted that the step was taken as a quick response to public complaints about porn content on the WhatsApp GIF application.
The six domain name servers are tenor.com, api.tenor.com, blog.tenor.com, qa.tenor.com, media.tenor.com, and media1.tenor.com.
The ministry contacted the WhatsApp management and sent a warning letter on November 5 and 6, 2017, calling on the free messaging application to remove the porn content from its platform.
WhatsApp could not dismiss the fact that the content was provided by a third party, as the service was connected to WhatsApp's platform.
In June 2016, hundreds of people from the Indonesian Islamic Organization, Muhammadiyah, had ever staged a protest in front of Grahadi building in Surabaya, East Java province, demanding that Google and YouTube remove pornographic content.
